Charles River Recreation and PaddleBoston welcome Deb Walters to Kendall Square on August 9th!
From our friends at Charles River Recreation & PaddleBoston:
Dr. Deb Walters will be at our Kendall Square location on August 9 at 4:30pm to tell us of her daring kayak expedition from Maine to Guatemala. Dr. Walters, a 63-year-old grandmother, educator, neuroscientist, and philanthropist, departed from Portland, Maine on July 13 to draw attention to Safe Passage, an organization devoted to the education of the children of the Guatemala City garbage dump
Walters will join us as she paddles through Boston to share her experiences of past solo expeditions in the Arctic, the Beaufort Sea and many other remote locations. The Expedition allows Dr. Walters to combine her love for solo sea kayaking with her devotion to the children of the dump who are now able to escape the cycle of poverty. Learn about the planning and execution of extended solo kayak expeditions, the technology involved, the making of wooden kayaks, and why Dr. Walters has been so inspired by the perseverance, struggles, and successes of these children and their families.
Spend the afternoon kayaking the Charles and come into our Kendall Square location to meet Deb and hear her story. Enjoy free pizza to be provided by Uphams House Pizzeria Trattoria of Dorchester. The talk will be held in Kendall Square's North Plaza located at 300 Athenaeum Street in Cambridge, just 100 yards from our dock!
