Sounds of Summer - Erin Bentlage concert June 19th, 2014
The 2014 @KendallSquare Concert Series served up a smooth summer show on Thursday when jazz vocalist Erin Bentlage, backed by the Daniel Rotem Trio, delivered a 90-minute show filled with simmering passion, melancholic harmony and original compositions. Alternating between keyboards and solo vocals, Erin displayed a heartrending style that was engaging and memorable.
In keeping with a blossoming reputation for delivering evocative live performances, the Vermont native and a cappella aficionado offered the Kendall Square lunchtime crowd a range of jazz standards like “April in Paris” and “There Will Never Be Another You,” as well as her own titles, including “Whistle.” Erin’s performance provided the perfect soundscape on a sunny, sparkling day that saw lunchtime crowd and Farmer’s Market shoppers fill every table at North Plaza.
Erin, recently was named winner of Downbeat magazine’s 2014 Student Award in the Vocal Jazz Soloist, plans to move to Los Angeles where she will continue to write, perform, teach (and, we hope, record) music.
