Julia Easterlin weaves jazz, electronic music, and unexpected instruments (such as Scandinavian Tupperware) into performances that have been described as “mesmerizing” and “Ella Fitzgerald meets Stomp.” Her current work involves using a looping station to create tracks in front of the audience, incorporating instruments, vocals, hand claps, tongue clicks and the serendipitous sound events that only a live setting can provide.
Easterlin was the lead soprano for the Gibson/Baldwin Grammy Jazz Ensembles (2006, 2007), performing with Allen Toussaint, the Neville Brothers, Coolio, Kurt Elling, and James Moody. In 2008 she was presented with Down Beat magazine’s Young Jazz Vocalist Award.
